A report commissioned by the Western Australia Pilbara Development Commission looked into the possibility of exporting electricity generated by solar PVs in the Pilbara to Indonesia. The study found that it’s feasible to deliver energy through high voltage direct current cables under the sea, as reported by ABC News.
The project will involve:
- Building a 3-gigawatt solar
- Building a subsea transmission cable
- 2,000 permanent jobs in Pilbara
- and more than 12,000 new jobs across Western Australia.
The renewable energy produced in the Pilbara region could produce four times Australia’s total power needs.
