Tesla’s Planned Battery in South Australia is Raising Questions

Tesla CEO Elon Musk sparked a big discussion after the company announced that they would solve South Australia’s power crisis by building the world’s largest battery. The 100 megawatt, 129 megawatt-hours will consist of Tesla Powerpacks hooked up to a wind farm produced by their project partner Neoen.

For many, it seems like a fair deal since South Australia needs power and Musk needs to build up infrastructure to reach sustainable energy goals. But with other project announcements from Musk, the question is, how exactly is this going to work?

In fact, some energy analysts are saying that the project may have been motivated by politics as opposed to giving a realistic and practical energy option for South Australia as stated by Greentech Media.

The battery project is being questioned because of the overall business model of the project and experts are scratching their heads on how Musk intends to make money from providing renewable power.
