Tesla Has Plans To Build Five More Gigafactories

Tesla CEO, Elon Musk just revealed that they have plans to build up to five Gigafactories. In their fourth quarter investor letter, Musk said the second Gigafactory would be a solar manufacturing plant, which is currently being built in Buffalo, New York. Tesla plans to announce the final locations for the 3rd, 4th and 5th Gigafactory later this year.

The installation of Model 3 manufacturing equipment is ongoing in Fremont, and at Gigafactory 1, they began production of battery cells for energy storage products January this year. The batteries will also have the same form-factor as the cells that will be used in the Model 3.

Musk has stated before that at least 200 Gigafactories must be built to meet the electric vehicle demand and with his announcements, Elon Musk is pretty clear that he is serious about accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable and renewable energy
