Tesla Concerned About Power Prices in South Australia

Tesla has joined retailers, generators, major energy users and experts in stating their concerns about South Australian Government’s $550 million energy plan as reported by ABC News.

SA’s Energy Security Target (EST) could create a cap on the volume of renewable energy within the state, locking out renewable generators.

The scheme is similar to the Federal Government’s Renewable Energy Target (RET). The EST would require retailers to source 36% of the state’s electricity requirements from gas generators and other power sources as compared to RET’s incentivisation of new renewable projects.

Tesla is concerned that the scheme will just favour traditional power generators over storage batteries. Even owners of gas power plants that will benefit from the EST are raising their concerns.
