Tech giant Microsoft has signed a major wind energy deal with General Electric in Ireland as reported by The Australian.

This deal will continue Microsoft’s major investments in renewable energy around the world. The agreement includes Microsoft working with GE on the continued development and deployment of battery technology in storing wind energy. The deal was signed as Australia is considering subsidies and grants for renewable energy development and completely abandoning the country’s Clean Energy Target.

Other takeaways from this monumental deal include:

  • Microsoft will bring its total worldwide renewable energy projects to about 600 megawatts
  • The deal is a good development for battery storage technology research
  • The project will produce valuable data for energy storage research
  • The project will also help support the growing demand for Microsoft Cloud services from Ireland.
