Greens Party Warns Labor About Deal That Would Protect Coal

The Guardian reported that the Greens are attempting to warn the Labor Party that a clean energy target deal with the Turnbull government could lock in coal.

The Greens will put forward a bill to uphold and expand the renewable energy target scheme. Adam Bandt, Greens spokesman, wants to ensure that coal-fired generators are left out of any future renewable energy target scheme to allow renewables to grow and close coal generators.

he says, “A Labor/Liberal CET deal that includes coal is a recipe for hobbling renewables and subsidising the new build of what would otherwise be stranded fossil fuel assets.”
