Australian Solar Power Generating Power At Record High

Australia is generating enough solar power to fuel nearly all the households in Melbourne as reported by the Australian Photovoltaic Institute.

The API along with data from Clean Energy Regulator stated that the country has hit a new solar record, with Queensland leading the charge for energy generation.

The numbers show that there are 6 gigawatts of solar power installed across the country; enough to meet the electricity needs of 1.3 million households. According to the institute chairman, Renate Egan, solar power now makes up 11% of the country’s total electricity generation capacity with more solar added to the system in 2016 as compared to other fuel type.

The institute also said solar power has become very popular in some towns and suburbs that households without it are the minority like Elimbah in Queensland and Baldvis in Western Australia.

SunWiz Managing director and solar analyst Warwick Johnson stated that the installation numbers went up quickly at the end of 2016 and Q1 of 2017.
