Australia Is Still Go For Tidal Energy Research with $2.49 Million Grant

Hydro World reported that the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) announced that it will provide $2.49 million in grants to attract future investment in a 3-year project to study tidal energy in Australia.

ARENA has stated that the project will provide an online atlas that maps tidal energy all over the country to the nearest 500 metres. The project will also address a knowledge gap and provide information tidal energy developers need to roll out the technology successfully.

Key project attributes include:

  • An application form Hydro Tasmania to develop 13 new pumped-storage hydro power projects.
  • Open Hydro, Protean Wave Energy, MAKO Tidal Turbines and BioPower Systems will make financial contributions and provide information on tidal energy hardware.
  • All information gathered can also be used in environmental management, defense, shipping, and wind and wave energy projects.
