Singapore Polytechnic Solar Car Preps for Australian Race

The latest model of Singapore Polytechnic’s solar powered car SunSPEC5 presented last July 21 will be competing once again in October at the World Solar Challenge race in Australia. The solar car which took 20 months to make is made from carbon fibre reinforced polymer body. It is a two-wheel drive with 1.5 kilowatts and high-efficiency DC motor and has a top speed of 100 kph. SunSPEC5 will be the only solar car from Singapore that will compete in the biennial Australian race. It will be one of the cars from 30 countries that will take part in the 3,000-kilometre race that will start in Darwin and will finish in Adelaide. This is the third time the school is entering the race, in 2015 and the second time they joined the race, the SunSPEC4 was destroyed in a fire when the internal battery pack short-circuited. They managed to rebuild the car in under 4 weeks and finished in 8th place.
